Giveaway - Visual Timer

Spring has sprung! It’s enough to put a spring in your step and a song in your heart. And speaking of songs, this month’s top ten was all about baby songs. Comment on this post with either your favorite song from my top 10 list or another toddler song/fingerplay and you’ll be entered in this month’s give-away for a visual timer!

This nifty little timer is a must in our household because it let James actually *see* how much time is left (see my milkjuice post for one example of how we put it to use). It’s great for helping children develop a sense of time and sense of independence. We don’t get through one day without using ours!

When you comment, make sure you include your first name and e-mail address so we can let you know you’ve won. You also might also want to add your e-mail to the mailing list for this blog so that you know when we have our next contest! The deadline for this contest is April 12th. Good luck and happy spring!

  1. my daughter loves the song "I am a pizza" and you act it out. At the end of the song you end up on the ground :( Its pretty funny

  2. My daughter just turned one and while we do a number of finger play songs, and experience a new music genre everyday, my heart melted about a week ago when she started to mimic Itsy Bitsy Spider. It's the little things.

  3. We recently bought one of these visual timers and life is much more organized. Bedtime goes smoothly, as does getting ready to go places, or finishing dinner in under an hour. I told all of my "mommy friends" about it and they all asked where they could find such a prize. My children (6 & 4) also love it. If I ever forget to use it, they demand it!

  4. I still love to sing the Itsy Bitsy spider with my kids (3.5 and 6), it really never gets old. I agree that watching them do the hand gestures along with me is delightful!

Sophie (2) loves Row Your Boat. She acts out the rowing, which is so funny. But she gets all her songs confused, and when it gets to the "merrily" part, she starts into Mary Had A Little Lamb! Every time. Too funny!

  6. My 3 year old sings to our almost one year old. The song we made up uses his name (Zach) and is the tune of Alouette. "Baby Zach Zach, Baby Zachariah. Baby Zach Zach, Zachariah boy". Melts my heart every time!

  7. My 8 month old daughter just recently began loving "Itsy Bitsy Spider". Her favorite part is when I act out the sun coming out, with a big smile on her face.

  8. Our favorite from your top 10 has to be Rock A By Baby. Madison, almost 2.5 wasn't really into it at first but then one day asked for me to sing it after her bath. Now that is our routine, wrap up in the towel and sing it "two times". We, like you, change it up and do it with different voices and sometimes insert sounds like a "crack" and she loves it. We also now sing it after our bedtime stories and it really helps to put the last sleepy touches on the night before bed. We are really working on the concept of time right now and I am intrigued by the timer. I just bought the goodnitelite and it is working wonderously, so I think this one would work great as well for getting ready in the morning, which is our biggest challenge.
Shawna (What a wonderful blog, I am going to link it to mine now) Thank you

  10. While my 2 yr. daughter LOVES all those songs, her favorite would have to be "Old MacDonald". She loves to come up with the most odd animals so she can laugh at my attempt to reproduce that animal's sound. Would love a timer for home. It used to be one of my most used tools when I was a practicing OT.

  11. Thanks for all the comments! So fun to read about all the songs we sing as mommies. :) I wish I could give a timer to each of you, that's how much I love our timer! But I can't, so, the winner is..... #8, Shawna. Congrats!
